3M picks former NuVasive CEO as president of Medical Solutions

Medical Solutions exists within the 3M Health Care business group. 3M expects to spin off its Health Care business in the first half of this year, after which point it will operate under the name “Solventum.” Barry, the former CEO of NuVasive, is the latest in a string of high-pro at the 3M unit. Bryan Hanson announced his departure from the corner office at Zimmer Biomet to take over the company in August. The company also landed former Insulet CFO Wayde McMillan as he takes over the same post. The appointment of Barry goes into effect on March 1. 3M expects him to help drive profitable growth for the unit, which provides advanced wound care solutions. Barry brings more than two decades of experience in the medical technology industry. He most recently served as CEO and director at NuVasive from 2018 until its merger with Globus Medical, completed in September. Prior to NuVasive, Barry served as SVP and president of surgical innovations for Medtronic from January 2015 to October 2018. Before that, he spent 15 years in various sales and leadership roles at Covidien, which Medtronic eventually acquired. That included time as SVP and president of Surgical Innovations at Medtronic. Barry also serves on the board of LivaNova. “We are excited to have Chris join us as we advance the spin-off of our planned, independent healthcare company,” Hanson said. “Chris is an innovative global leader and we will benefit from his deep expertise in the healthcare and medical device industry.”
