Tweet this The five-year PIKASO Trial, a randomized phase II clinical trial, will examine the use of the off-patent drug Metformin in patients with major knee injury who are at high-risk for developing PTOA in the knee after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Positive results from this trial would have the potential to enable surgeons to immediately prescribe the drug before a patient undergoes surgery to slow the disease progression, or even fully prevent PTOA.
