The β-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG-β) was modified to a varying degree by the cleavage of the disulfide bonds by reduction with dithioerythritol followed by S-carboxamidomethylation.The resulting derivatives of hCG-β showed a preferential loss in their immunol. crossreactivity with human LH.The immunol. specificity of the partially reduced and S-alkylated derivatives were further enhanced by conjugation with tetanous toxoid using glutaraldehyde.Neither conjugation of HCG-β with the toxoid nor its treatment with anti-human LH immunoadsorbent affected its crossreactivity with human LH.

The authors relate an half-year of antitetanic vaccination activity of the Health Office of Italian Railways in Milano. The operating protocol provided a preliminary dosage of tetanic toxoid in lack of information about previous vaccination. The results have underlined a good percentage of subjects who don't require further vaccination.
