QUINCY, IL – Blessing Health System announced today it would be implementing Allscripts electronic health record and practice management software to connect its hospitals and independent and employed physicians.
Blessing Health System operates two hospitals, the 340-bed Blessing Hospital and the Illini Community Hospital. Blessing hospital employs 240 physicians and sees 13,400 inpatients and 245,000 outpatients, annually. Blessing Health System consists of the Blessing–Rieman College of Nursing, a four-year nursing education program, the Blessing Foundation and a group of medical specialty businesses made up of 40 physicians who serve patients from Western Illinois, Northeast Missouri and Southeast Iowa.
When the Stark regulation was relaxed, Blessing Health system decided to extend its technology to connect its 21 independent faculty physicians and medical residents at the Quincy Family Practice Center, with Blessing’s employed physicians and hospitals.
“By offering both affiliated and non-affiliated physicians the Allscripts electronic health record and practice management solution, we can provide a seamless connection to critical patient information along the entire continuum of care,” said Jerry Jackson, president and CEO, Blessing Physician Services. "Our goal is to develop a hospital-based community model under which Blessing Hospital and all of Quincy's medical groups join to offer truly integrated patient care."
The Allscripts EHR system will provide Blessing Health System access to automated patient information, clinical tasks (such as prescribing, refilling medications, ordering and reviewing tests and patient documenting), health alerts, clinical decision support and drug safety checking. Blessing Health system hopes to increase productivity with Allscripts’ practice management technology, which will handle scheduling and revenue cycle management.
