The objective of this paper is to explore the normal values, recommended borderline-up limit values, risk value of blood lipid and the prevalence of abnormal serum lipid in children aged 2 to 6 years old in Shenzhen. After fasting for 12 h in 284 children, their venous blood was drown, the serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-d. lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-d. lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein AI (ApoAI), apolipoprotein B (ApoB) were assayed by using automatic biochem. instrument. For the lipid levels of 2 to 6 years, the risk values of TC, TG, LDL-C, ApoB were above 5.83 mmol/L, 1.29 mmol/L, 3.28 mmol/L, 1.14 g/L; and the risk value of HDL-C, ApoAI were below 1.44 mmol/L, 1.38 g/L, resp. The prevalence of abnormal serum lipid was 14.08%, especially in TC level, with no significant difference among different age groups of the child (P>0.05), and no significant difference between boys and girls (P>0.05). It was concluded that there is a certain prevalence of abnormal blood lipid in children aged 2 to 6 years. Controlling abnormal blood lipid in children would be helpful to reduce risk factors resulting in cardiovascular disease.
