In order to improve gas barrier properties a technique based on principles found in nature was developed that takes its inspiration from the multi-layered structure of the onion.Barrier improvements for plastic bottles and films are achieved by building up very thin layers of the same polymeric material one on top of the other, which means that the material remains recyclable.O permeation of PET foils were tested.
