Objective: To optimize the extraction process of total phenolic compounds from Cortex Moutan.Method: Extraction time of 30 min, ethanol concentration, extraction temperature and solid-liquid ratio were chosen as the response factors, and the extraction rate of total phenolic compounds was as index.The best combination of extraction parameters was obtained by response surface methodol. at a three-variable and three-level experimentResult: The optimum extraction parameters were as follows: 50% ethanol, extraction temperature of 75°C, and solid-liquid ratio of 1:41.Under the above conditions the maximal yield of phenolic compounds reached 40.95 mg/g, which was agreed with model predictions.Conclusion: The study would provide scientific proof for the deeper utilization and extensive application of Cortex Moutan.
