NEW YORK, Oct. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- A recently published study in the Journal of Biomechanics shows that Phy Health, a B2B musculoskeletal health tech company, offers a promising new technology for measuring musculoskeletal (MSK) health.
Journal of Biomechanics study abstract
Researchers at the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI), the nation's leading research institute for biomechanics and sport-injury prevention, founded by Dr. James Andrews, tested Phy Health's single-view image-based system against the "gold standard" 12-camera marker-based motion capture system to compare human static pose estimation data captured between the two systems. The study concluded that "The Phy Health image-based system provided remarkably similar results to the 'gold standard' 12-camera marker-based system. For most joint angles and other large scale biomechanical measures, errors of this scale (~1-2o) would likely be considered trivial and not clinically significant. (Pearson correlation coefficients comparing participant mean values between systems ranged from 0.97 to 0.98, with all p-values 1, and 1 in 2 US adults2, with low back pain being one of the main contributors. Nevertheless, a big part of the problem lies within pain and symptom management as opposed to the determination and treatment of the underlying cause. Phy Health's musculoskeletal measurements offer a promising new way to objectively assess MSK health and support better diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
